On Saturday, April 26th, 2008, Heddy Salerno, Deb Ringler and Marlene Javage, all members of the Plantscape Industry Alliance’s (PIA) Cares program, brought an army of volunteers to the Ridge. They were there to help our residents weed, clean, dig, and plant. The results are the gorgeous potted plants in the main office, Angel Hall and Legacy Plaza, and the brand new Sensory Garden in Croy Park. The Sensory Garden consists of an herb garden, and edible garden, a fragrance garden, and a bird and butterfly garden. The five on campus homes take turns tending to the garden on a daily basis, nurturing themselves as they care for nature. Come on out to Croy Park, have a picnic, watch the birds, smell the geranium and jasmine, listen to the wind chime, feel the soft leaves of the lamb’s ear. As you enter the garden, read the sign at the bird and butterfly, and enjoy: (Click on the photographs tab to view pictures). “Listen to Nature…..be ever so quiet Do you hear wind chimes…. Listen to the grass swishing in the wind…. Do you hear insects buzzing, leaves and stems rustling… Listen for birds singing, grasshoppers clicking, water trickling/dripping/splashing……. Can you hear them? Are your ears tickling now? “Look at Nature…..be ever so still Do you see a butterfly or two….. Look for birds hopping, sliding under the buddleia leaves … Are other insects bopping about, what are they up to…. Do you see the color of flowers; yellow, blue, fuchsia ….”
